IMPORTANT WEATHER (LIGHTNING) INFORMATION
ELECTRICAL STORM POLICY AND
PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
In the
event potential electrical storms could occur, all drivers are
expected to remain at
the pool until CSC has decided:
1. To begin Clinic and are able to go beyond 15 minutes.
2. To release the children to their drivers.
In general, there is a half hour closing rule for lightning
that is last sighted in the area.
Our policy will be:
* If lightning is sighted at or near the time a Clinic is
about to start, the Clinic will be cancelled.
* If lightning is sighted within 15 minutes after a Clinic has started, the
Clinic will be cancelled.
* If lightning is sighted beyond 15 minutes after the start, the children will
be removed from the water and have a discussion session on the benches.
During these occasional iffy evenings, it is crucial that
all drivers remain at the facility until we have determined to continue or
terminate the evening’s program. Under these circumstances, parents are welcome
to be seated on the side bleachers until we have decided what to do for the
evening.
PLEASE NOTE: PARENTS OF CHILDREN STRANDED AT THE
FACILITY (UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES) WILL BE BILLED $15/CHILD REGARDLESS OF
“CARPOOLING” ARRANGEMENTS. PLEASE HAVE THIS CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD BY ALL DRIVING
PARENTS.
IMPORTANT WEATHER (SNOW-ICE) INFORMATION
The Arlington Recreation Department (not Arlington
County Schools) determines sports facility closings. Their inclement weather number is (703)
228-4715 (option #1) Listen until they specifically
mention the Arlington County Pools.
If Arlington
Recreation facilities close early due to poor weather conditions, they normally
close for the day.
If, in the Clinic director’s opinion, the pool is
open but conditions indicate the potential for hazardous driving conditions,
parents will be notified of a Clinic cancellation. CHECK OUR WEB SITE REGULARLY FOR CLOSINGS AND
SCHEDULE CHANGES. Please do not attempt
to call the Clinic.
Conditions vary in different areas…if you are driving
some distance to the Clinic or are coming from a remote area, please use your own judgment as to safety considerations.
